Meet Sonja Means, of Ember Care Management
Sonja Watts-Means is a licensed clinical social worker who provides traditional and faith based counseling.
The name for the practice, Ember, is a prefix of parents’ names’ Emerson and Bertha, representing “light.” And “Care Management” indicates the care of the whole person.
Ms. Watts-Means is a graduate of Howard University’s School of Social Work. She has been in the counseling profession for more than twenty years. She predominately provides individual, couples and family counseling. Additional services include: care management for those with special needs, mentoring and play therapy to children and life support coaching to adults. The practice serves young children (beginning at 4 years old), adolescents and adults without respect to culture, race or spiritual background. Specialty population comprise of individuals with ADHD, affective and thought disorders, PTSD, trauma, marital conflict, spiritual dilemmas and employment issues, especially public safety workers and health professionals suffering from burnout or other issues which simply complicate living. There is a special interest in serving the elderly and caregivers.
Ember Care is associated with majority commercial insurance companies, many Employment Assistance Programs and a vendor for Maryland Medical Assistance Behavioral Health component. For those who are not under insurance or have unique financial circumstances special considerations or referrals are made. Patients are seen on appointment basis but in crisis situations same day visits are possible. The office also offers evenings and Saturday appointments. Meet Karen Allen, Licensed Professional Counselor
Karen Allen is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) who has been affiliated with Pilates Plus Wellness Center for several years.
Karen is currently an associate therapist with BASICS Group Practice, LLC located at 7610 Pennsylvania Avenue, Forestville, MD 20747 (across from Marlos Furniture). 301-332-7573. BASICS is dedicated to establishing and maintaining a standard of excellence in providing proven community behavioral health and developmental services to the residents of Prince George’s County and neighboring areas. Karen usually sees clients in the evenings on scheduled days. Her foundation is Cognitive Behavioral (how and what we think; our behavior/actions). Because she firmly believes that the mind, body, spirit, and emotions are all connected – her approach to counseling is one in the same.
Meet Mary Shaughessy, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
Mary Shaughessy works with children, adolescents, and adults.
Mary earned her PhD from the University of Maryland and is a member of APA, MPA, and National Register. She works with kids, adolescents, and adults. She specializes in family therapy and trauma. Her experiences/techniques include: Orientation Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior, Hypnosis, Energy Therapy, and Emdr. Mary does not see couples.
