Community Involvement

Pilates Plus is pleased to participate in Yoga for First Responders in Maryland through the national organization Kula for Karma

Did you know that first responders experience PTSD and substance use disorders at twice the rate of the general population? These paramedics and firefighters may witness more trauma, loss, and death in one day than the average citizen will see in a lifetime.

Pilates Plus Wellness Center is are pleased to be part of Kula for Karma’s First Responder program in Maryland that provides first responders with free classes to improve emotional wellness, increase job performance using movement and breath, and alleviate physical and mental effects of work-related stress.

Kula for Karma is a national therapeutic yoga organization that offers yoga and meditation services free of cost to populations in need, including at-risk youth, cancer patients, caregivers, prisoners, and veterans.

“I believe passionately in this program,” says Pilates Plus owner Susan Spangler. “Participating in Kula for Karma’s First Responder program lets me give back something to the professionals who give so much to our community.”

The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it’s saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources with shelters across the country, we work toward the day in which no animal will live in pain or fear.
