Community Involvement
We support Upper Marlboro because we ARE Upper Marlboro!
We are proud to support these important Maryland community causes—not just in Upper Marlboro, but also in Bowie, Brandywine, unincorporated Prince George’s County, Lothian, and Dunkirk.
The Lamb’s Quarter
The Lamb’s Quarter is happy to provide you with fresh, local, organically raised food. You are what you eat!!
At the Lamb’s Quarter, raising healthy food is the fundamental goal. The Lamb’s Quarter wants to give thoughtful people an alternative to the mass produced, mass transit, supermarket culture.
For years they have been involved in the raising of natural beef and poultry products. Now, the Lamb’s Quarter has added a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to their farm. One of the goals of CSA is to reunite eaters and farmers in a common purpose.
Take the time to learn more about their farm and sustainable farming in general by visiting their website: The Lamb’s Quarter.
Run For Wildlife
Pilates Plus Wellness Center supports the annual Jug Bay 10K/5K and 3K Fun Walk Run for Wildlife!
Every year, the Run for Wildlife 10K/5K foot race and 3K fun walk takes participants along the banks of the Patuxent River and across a 1,000-foot bridge through a wetland area. Proceeds from each race go toward wildlife conservation projects. Learn more about Run for Wildlife.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it’s saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources with shelters across the country, we work toward the day in which no animal will live in pain or fear. Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
Is there even one of us that hasn’t been impacted by breast cancer in some way?
Pilates Plus Wellness Center is pleased to be able to sponsor participants in the annual Race for the Cure fundraiser.
Grassfed On The Hill
Grassfed On The Hill is a group of citizen-consumers who are interested in maintaining our health and the sustainability of the planet. We purchase our food directly from a farmer in Southern PA and have it delivered to one of several locations in the DC area. The products we get from this farmer are all organic (though not certified) and humanely raised.
This farmer provides grassfed beef, raw milk from grassfed cows, cheese, free range, milkfed pork, free range eggs and poultry and some other products such as bread, noodles and maple syrup that are not produced on his farm. Many believe that raw milk from grassfed, healthy cows offers health benefits for those who drink it.
The buying club is organized through a yahoo group. Once people become members of the group, they can place orders through the database on the group homepage. There is no minimum order requirement or any obligation to order for a certain amount of time. The food is delivered weekly for those who order. Currently one of the pickups in Prince George’s County is in Bowie, MD.
If you do choose to join, once you do so, you will receive several documents explaining everything in details about the buying-club, how it is run and how to order and pick-up your food. There is also a FAQ page. Please take the time to read the documents that you get–they should explain everything. If you do not like a lot of emails, please be sure to choose "special notices only" when you are prompted about mail delivery. If you choose "individual emails" you will get many emails relating to the group.
If you still have questions after reading the documents, please feel free to contact Susan Spangler and I would be happy to answer any additional questions. Here is the link to the group home page. From here you can request to join.
